SANE TRAINING
COURSE DESCRIPTION
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner of Adults and Adolescents (SANE A/A) is a registered nurse who has completed advanced education and training in the forensic examination of victims of sexual assault. A SANE completes a Sexual Assault Forensic Medical Exam (SAFE) collects and preserves evidence, participates in a multidisciplinary team to ensure all of the victims needs are met, and testifies in legal proceedings. SANEs are credentialed by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
RNs will be required to attend the entire didactic course to receive the 44.7 hours of continuing education credits. Following the classroom content, nurses will complete clinical objectives that will include time spent with law enforcement, rape crisis advocates, observing live or recorded trials, learning to complete speculum exams, practice with history taking and mock exams.
CRITERIA FOR AWARDING CONTACT HOURS
You must attend the entire session, actively participate in class activities, complete a pre- and post-test and submit a program evaluation to receive a certificate awarding contact hours. Participants will have one hour for lunch on their own each day; morning and afternoon breaks will be given as well.

Local Nationally-Certified SANE, Local Law Enforcement investigator, Local Commonwealth Attorney, Local Rape Crisis Center Advocate, Local Pharmacist and Kentucky State Police Forensic Analyst.

- Discuss Non-Fatal Strangulation
- Describe Preparing and Testifying in Court
- Pass Post-test & Complete Evaluations
