Salary Range: $71,000-$75,000

 

About KASAP

The Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs, Inc. (KASAP) is the statewide coalition of the 13 rape crisis centers in the Commonwealth. The mission of KASAP is to speak with a unified voice against sexual victimization. As a coalition, KASAP provides technical assistance to member programs and professionals; advocates for improvements in public policy; fosters coalition building among members, organizations, and individuals committed to ending sexual violence; promotes prevention and public awareness regarding sexual assault and related issues; and maintains resources for sexual assault program staff and the public. KASAP does not provide direct services to survivors of sexual violence.

Position Summary 

The Communications and Engagement Director advances KASAP’s mission to speak with a unified voice against sexual violence by shaping and implementing KASAP’s strategic communications plans and coordinating messaging for Kentucky’s 13 sexual violence resource centers. The Communications and Engagement Director is responsible for developing core KASAP messaging, managing KASAP’s media engagement, coordinating statewide communications campaigns, maintaining consistent branding, creating original digital content and printed materials, and providing training and support to KASAP’s member programs.  

Core Responsibilities 
Strategic Communications & Public Messaging 
  • In collaboration with KASAP’s executive leadership, develop, assess, and review KASAP’s comprehensive communications strategy and framework 
  • In collaboration with KASAP’s executive leadership, develop & implement annual communications plans 
  • Serve as a media spokesperson and coordinate media inquiries in collaboration with executive leadership.  
  • Monitor emerging issues and support rapid-response communications related to sexual violence, legislation, and organizational priorities. 
  • Support KASAP’s public policy efforts by drafting key messaging, talking points, and public-facing documents for legislative advocacy. 
  • Draft and distribute press releases, talking points, statements, blog content, and multimedia communications in response to current events or organizational priorities. 
  • Provide communications counsel and support to executive leadership, including talking points, presentations, speeches, and public statements. 
  • Produce and distribute KASAP’s quarterly newsletter for external stakeholders, highlighting news, survivor services, legislative updates, and center activities 
  • Design branded materials such as programs, presentations, slideshows, and signage. 
Statewide Coordination & Program Support 
  • Coordinate statewide communications campaigns 
  • Provide communications guidance, templates, and toolkits to KASAP’s member programs, to support their messaging and communications about public events, news, raising awareness, etc.   
  • Provide training and technical assistance to programs regarding communications and outreach 
Event Planning & Logistics 
  • Lead communications, including promotional materials, for assigned events, such as the annual conference 
  • Organize press conferences as needed 
  • Provide live technical support and document events through photography, writing, and digital content creation 
Website Management & Social Media Communications 
  • Create original content for KASAP’s digital platforms, including graphics, videos, posts, and stories that promote our mission and reflect trauma-informed, values-driven messaging 
  • Maintain and audit KASAP’s website to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and up-to-date information. 
  • Manage live event calendar, blog, job postings, publications, and resource pages to reflect current offerings 
  • Monitor and evaluate website, social media, and email performance and use analytics to inform communications strategy.  
  • Apply accessibility and inclusive communication practices across digital and public-facing materials. 
Branding, Design, & Visual Communications 
  • Update internal documents, policy and procedure manual, and internal reports to ensure alignment with KASAP branding. 
  • Maintain consistency in organizational voice, tone, and visual identity across all communication channels 
  • Provide graphic design for internal and external documents, including reports, flyers, social media, presentations, and promotional materials. 
  • Ensure accessibility, clarity, and mission alignment in all visual communications 
Resource Development and Community Stakeholder Communication  
  • Support resource development efforts through communications, campaigns, sponsorship materials, and other resource development materials.  
  • Develop communications for stakeholders in coordination with executive leadership.  
  • Research potential individual, business, and foundation supporters. 
  • Support events, campaigns, sponsorship opportunities, and stewardship activities. 
Required Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in communications, public relations, public policy, journalism, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience doing relevant work, including experience with public-facing communications and media engagement. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ending sexual violence. 
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.  
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when communicating about sensitive or rapidly evolving issues.  
  • Experience with digital communications tools, content management systems, email marketing, and/or communications analytics. 
  • Proficiency with technology and platforms required for the functions of the position 
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to represent the coalition professionally and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to work independently within a flexible structure, exercise initiative, establish priorities, and move projects from concept to completion. 
  • Demonstrated skills in design, branding, and social media communications 
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel, including some overnight travel 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience working in victim-services 
  • Understanding of Kentucky’s rape crisis centers 
  • Experience leading non-profit communications strategy
