Throughout April 2025, KASAP and its network of 13 regional sexual assault programs will lead a powerful series of statewide events and initiatives as part of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM). The month offers countless opportunities for communities to raise awareness, support survivors, and take meaningful action to end sexual violence.
The month kicks off with Why Wear Teal Week (April 1–6), encouraging individuals to wear teal – the color of sexual violence prevention – and start conversations about consent, boundaries, and support for survivors.
Additional highlights from this year’s SAAPM include:
Green Dot Bystander Intervention Events – Promoting community responsibility and equipping participants with practical tools to prevent harm before it happens.
Chalk the Walk – Sidewalks across Kentucky will be filled with powerful messages of support, hope, and prevention, offering a public and creative way to engage passersby.
Denim Day (April 30) – Kentuckians wear denim to stand in solidarity with survivors and challenge victim-blaming myths, inspired by the global campaign that began after a court overturned a rape conviction due to the victim’s jeans.
Local activities throughout the month include educational workshops, school and campus programs, art installations, and social media campaigns, all centered around creating safer, more informed, and more compassionate communities.
KASAP remains committed to fostering safe and supportive environments across the Commonwealth, during SAAPM and every day of the year.
