Fatphobia and Sexual Violence: Lunch & Learn Pt. 2
From 12:00pm to 1:00pm EDT
05/25/2022
Part 2 of KASAP's Anti-Oppression Workgroup Lunch & Learn focusing on the intersection of fatphobia and sexual violence.
Join us on May 25th at 12 pm EST/11 am CT for our continued conversation about fatphobia, diet culture, and sexual violence, entitled "Fat Representations in Media and Implications for Sexual Violence Survivors."
We will be exploring representations in the media (film, TV, social media, etc.) and how those representations (or lack thereof) can impact survivors directly, and become a driving force in policy and systems creation. We will also discuss this from the view of our work, and the larger anti-violence movement. We will recap from part 1 and discuss representations of fat people, sexual violence survivors, as well as fat sexual violence survivors. Just like in part 1, part 2 is meant to serve as a starting point in each attendee’s journey in learning and unlearning the ways fatphobia and diet culture affect not just media representation of any fat person, but also how fat survivors become even more disproportionately marginalized and isolated because of these representations. The goal is for attendees to become more aware of these representations and to think critically about how media impacts and shapes our services and programs.
