Immigrants & Refugees

Immigrants and Refugee who are victims of sexual violence face many barriers to safety and healing. Among these are language, cultural differences, fear of deportation and a lack of information about their rights and what services exist. Some immigrants and refugees have suffered sexual violence in the process of migration, at the hands of a smuggler or in refugee camps. Others may find themselves highly vulnerable to abuse once in the United States as the hand of intimate partners or strangers.

In spite of these barriers, immigrant and refugee victims have many important rights, among them protections under immigration law, and a right to access services “necessary to life and safety,” including emergency medical services and rape crisis services. KASAP is committed to helping individuals and agencies overcome barriers, reach out to immigrant and refugee survivors, and ensure that services are accessible to all.
