Mission:

The Cumberland River Rape Victim Services is a program through the Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center. Counseling services are offered for all victims of sexual assault and their families in Bell, Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Rockcastle, and Whitley Counties. Victims are treated in a confidential manner by staff trained specifically to address the issues related to sexual assault. For Crisis Counseling Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm, call any local Comprehensive Care Center as ask for the sexual assault crisis counselor. After hours, holidays, and weekends you may call the Hot Line collect (606) 523-9386.

Services

  • Emergency Counseling - Crisis Counseling at the hospital for all age victims and their families.
  • Legal Advocacy - Counselors are available to support victims through the legal process with emotional preparation for trial, and when necessary, accompany the victim to court. Appropriate referrals to court advocates may be made.
  • On going Counseling - Individual counseling: to help the victim deal with fears, anger, feelings of powerlessness, etc.; Counseling for couples: to help the couple deal with their anxieties, fears, anger, and reestablish and reaffirm their relationship; Family Counseling: to assist the family members in their responses to the victim, in ways to help the victim, and to deal with their victimization as a result of the assault.
  • Educational programs - Educational programs are available for the public, civic groups, youth groups, agencies, and schools, etc. These may be on a variety of topics related to sexual assault.
