Mission:
The Rape Crisis Center is a private, nonprofit organization primarily serving the nine counties in the Purchase Area of Western Kentucky (Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Livingston, Marshall, and McCracken.) In addition to the Centeršs facility in Paducah, Kentucky, a satellite outreach office is staffed on a full-time basis in Murray, Kentucky. The agency is able to operate through a combination of funding sources including a state grant awarded by the Division of Mental Health, a federal grant awarded by the Justice Cabinet, a grant through the Attorney Generalšs Office, a PHHB Block Grant, United Way support, and local community in-kind and cash donations. All services provided by the agency are free and confidential. The backbone of the organization continues to be our dedicated team of volunteers who annually contribute more than 21,000 hours of time to help those in need.
Services:
All services provided through the Rape Crisis Center are free and confidential and are available to both adults and children. Specific services include: 24-hour crisis line; crisis intervention counseling; information and referral; individual, family, and group counseling; child therapy; support groups; legal and medical advocacy; consultation; professional training; volunteer training; and community education. Whether a sexual assault occurred recently or many years ago, the Center is here to help. Trained counselors are provided as support persons to help individuals, as well as their families and friends, deal with the trauma of rape. Depending on the individual's needs and requests, support persons will accompany the person to the hospital, act as third party reporters of the rape, and will provide support to the individual throughout the assailant's trial. An individual may receive the agency's services whether or not the crime is reported.
